Family Business Office Hours on the Miami Campus

February 2017

During Elective Week in February, seven EMBA-Miami students and alumni from seven countries dropped in for a lunch discussion with the theme Family Business Office Hours: An Open Discussion of What's on Your Mind Regarding Family Business, hosted by Professor Justin Craig, Co-Director of Kellogg's Center for Family Enterprises.

"We introduced ourselves around the table and expressed current concerns about our family businesses," according to Diego from Columbia.

Luis from Mexico commented, "It provided me with the opportunity to learn about a variety of situations. One person spoke of the transition of leadership from 2nd to 3rd generation in a big family business, another spoke of issues being a private banker to families. In my case, I am transitioning into working in my family business as a 2nd generation member, after having worked in non-family businesses in the past."

Maria the non-family CFO of a Family Office in Peru added, "The session was very interesting because of Professor Craig's deep understanding on leading family businesses, and also because of the opportunity to share with our peers the challenges we face as well as the best practices we experience."

Of the gathering, the Assistant Director, Student Services of Kellogg's EMBA-Miami program, shared, "We received great feedback from the students and alums!"
